Poetry Manifesto

to me, as i aspire to inspire (just like those poets and writers who have inspired me), poetry is walking that tightrope, taking that risk that yields the best and greatest result. but, most of all, the words have to mean something to yourself as well as others. They must evoke emotions and feelings from the inner sanctum of our minds, bodies and souls, because”if the meaning doesn’t manifest,” like KRS-One said way back in the day, “then put it to rest.” my standard for myself as a poet is to continually get better on a daily basis with each poem by pushing myself to take that risk rather than get stuck in a rut, & learn from & aspire to the level of those i consider my poetic idols like langston hughes, amiri baraka,  gwendolyn brooks, nikki giovanni, sonia sanchez, lucille clifton, maya angelou, allen ginsberg, e.e. cummings, kahlil gibran, michael harper, yusef komunyakaa, kevin young, and many others.
